Sete é considerado o número perfeito porque é composto por três e quatro, representando o triângulo e o quadrado, as duas figuras perfeitas.

Os maçons veem a estrela de sete pontos como representando o quadrivium, a divisão mais alta das sete artes liberais na Idade Média, composta de geometria, astronomia, aritmética e música, e o trivium que consiste em gramática, retórica e lógica.

As coleiras dos grão-mestres continham sete estrelas pontuais até 1871, quando foram alteradas, sem explicação, para estrelas de cinco pontos.

Seven is considered to be the perfect number because it is made up of three and four, representing the triangle and the square, the two perfect figures. Freemasons see the seven-point star as representing the quadrivium, the higher division of the seven liberal arts in the Middle Ages, composed of geometry, astronomy, arithmetic, and music, and the trivium consisting of grammar, rhetoric, and logic. The Grand Masters' collars contained seven point stars until about 1871 when they were changed, without explanation, to five-point stars.
